New Year's Eve in Madeira is very popular and we have guests from all around the world coming to spend this period here. At the end of every year, Madeira becomes an island full of festivity to celebrate Christmas and the end of another year with events of a cultural, ethnographic, and artistic nature.
Christmas in Madeira is full of practiced traditions such as the creation of the nativity scene in the homes of families usually under the Christmas tree or prominent place in the sitting room. You will find them also on display in shops, hotels or in town. The tourist office usually makes a life size nativity opposite their offices. The traditional honey cake and carolling make for a wonderful atmosphere in the streets.
On the 31st of December, the celebration on the island is immense with the arrival the New Year. The skies light up in color and light with beautiful fireworks, using up to fifty posts where the fireworks shoot up in the sky for about ten minutes. Then, the animation continues in hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and streets, not to mention private houses. It is certainly a memorable New Year's celebration.
