Would you like to promote healthy living and immerse yourself completely in the pristine natural environment of Madeira Island all while travelling responsibly and being wholly engaged in local customs and traditions? In this award winning ecological hotel, the respect for nature is one of the key principles of the hotel, gracefully built to be fully integrated with its natural surroundings with a Unesco protected Laurissilva primitive forest at its doorstep. No detail was left untouched- even the interior of the hotel was prudently decorated in ‘feng shui' style, with the colours and structure obeying the laws of nature to promote good health and energy.
Hotel Jardim Atlantico is well-known for the Barefoot Path which was created with the desire to create something new, unknown and innovative that could be integrated in nature. The barefoot path is approx. 800 m long and it is made up of several natural elements from Madeira's nature such as pines, black sand, golden sand from the neighboring island of Porto Santo, beach pebbles among others, elements that provide a sensation of well-being and harmony, and a purported to be highly benefitial for reflexology and overall health. The hotel restaurant offers only natural products without chemicals or other additives with fresh baked bread daily from the kitchen, and whenever possible fresh products are bought from local farmers. Vegetarian cuisine is the house specialty.
At Hotel Jardim Atlantico, guests have the opportunity to experience local customs, culture, and traditions hands-on as the hotel offers classes in world famous Madeiran embroidery, art (painting), and carpet weaving all supporting local craftspeople. Every fortnight they have some environment friendly oriented activities for the guests that wish to participate, such as the reforestation of the natural park of Madeira, cleaning of the walking paths, and gathering of seeds. For those who wish to be further engaged in Madeira and its surroundings there are talks on local culture and flora held bi-weekly.
